Timothy K. Armour, Interim Chief Executive Officer and Director Janus Capital Group
Tim Armour, 60, is interim chief executive officer ("CEO") of Janus Capital Group and also serves as a member of the Janus Capital Group Board. Mr. Armour was appointed interim CEO in July 2009, and has been a director since March 2008.
After 10 years with Morningstar, Inc., Mr. Armour retired as Morningstar's managing director in 2008. He was managing director of Morningstar from 2000 to 2008, president from 1999 to 2000, and chief operating officer from 1998 to 1999.
From 1992 to 1998, he served as president of Stein Roe & Farnham's mutual fund division. Prior to that, he was senior vice president and director of marketing in Citibank's retail bank division. Mr. Armour began his career in 1975 with General Foods Corporation, where he spent 12 years in product management and planning.
In his role as interim CEO at Janus, Mr. Armour partners with the executive leadership team to deliver against the firm's strategic priorities and has overall responsibility for day-to-day management of the firm.
Mr. Armour earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Gettysburg College, then served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. After completing his tour of duty, he earned his M.B.A. from Columbia University.
Paul F. Balser, Independent Director
Paul F. Balser, 66, has been a director of Janus Capital Group (formerly Stilwell Financial) since June 2000. He has been a partner of Ironwood Partners, LLC since December 2000, and a partner of Generation Partners, L.P., both of New York, New York, since August 1995. Both are investment firms specializing in privately negotiated equity transactions.
From September 1986 through July 1995, Mr. Balser was a partner of Centre Partners, L.P., New York, New York, which also specialized in privately negotiated equity and venture capital investments.
Mr. Balser is a director of Tweedy, Browne Fund Inc., New York, New York, Carbide/Graphite Group, Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as well as a number of private companies. He was a director of Kansas City Southern Industries from 1990 to July 2000.
Andrew Cox, Independent Director
Andrew Cox, 64, has been a director of Janus Capital Group (formerly Stilwell Financial) since October 2002. Since 1995, he has been an adjunct professor at the Daniels College of Business, University of Denver, where he lectures in the M.B.A. and M.Sc. graduate programs on portfolio management and security analysis. He has been an investment management consultant on asset allocation and financial planning issues since 1988.
From 1976 through 1988, Mr. Cox served as Vice President of Investments and portfolio manager at the Founders Family of Mutual Funds in Denver. From 1972 to 1976, he held the position of portfolio manager and security analyst for Berger Associates, also in Denver.
Mr. Cox is a member of the Board of Editorial Contributors for the Denver Business Journal. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Southampton in England. He received a master's degree in macroeconomics from the University of Stockholm.
Jeffrey Diermeier, Independent Director
Jeffrey Diermeier, 55, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since March 2008.
Mr. Diermeier has been President and Chief Executive Officer of CFA Institute since 2005. Prior to CFA Institute, he spent 29 years at UBS Global Asset Management and its predecessor organizations, primarily Brinson Partners, Inc., eventually becoming the firm's Global Chief Investment Officer.
In addition to the Board of Governors of CFA Institute, he sits on the boards of Stairway Partners, The Q-Group, XBRL U.S. and XBRL International Advisory Board. Mr. Diermeier is also director of the University of Wisconsin Foundation. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and an M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mr. Diermeier holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

J. Richard Fredericks, Independent Director
J. Richard Fredericks, 62, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since October 2006. He also serves as managing director of the money management firm Main Management.
Mr. Fredericks served as the United States Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein from 1999 until 2001. From 1977 to 1999 he worked at Banc of America Securities (formerly Montgomery Securities), initially as a partner and later as senior managing director. He began his career in financial services in 1970 as a securities analyst with Dean Witter.
Mr. Fredericks earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgetown University and a master's degree in business administration from Columbia University.
Deborah Gatzek, Independent Director
Deborah Gatzek, 59, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since March 2004.
Ms. Gatzek has served as a corporate and investment advisory legal counselor for more than 20 years. From 1983 until 2000, she was Senior Vice President and a member of the executive committee of Franklin Resources, Inc. and its subsidiaries and the Franklin, Templeton and Mutual Series Funds. Ms. Gatzek was most recently Chief Counsel of ING Americas mutual fund practice. She also served as Special Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission and Regional Counsel with the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD).
Ms. Gatzek received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where she graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She also received her law degree from UCLA.
Lawrence Kochard, Independent Director
Larry Kochard, 52, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since March 2008.
Since 2004, Mr. Kochard has been the Chief Investment Officer of Georgetown University, where he also is a lecturer at the university's McDonough School of Business. Prior to Georgetown, he spent three years as the managing director of equity and hedge fund investments for the Virginia Retirement System. From 1997 to 2004, he taught in the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce and Department of Economics. Mr. Kochard began his career with positions in financial analysis and planning, corporate finance and capital markets for E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, Fannie Mae and the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
Mr. Kochard is chairman of the Investment Committee of the College of William & Mary as well as a member of the Investment Committee of Saint Louis University.
He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the College of William & Mary and an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester. He also received a master's degree in economics and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia. Mr. Kochard holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Robert T. Parry, Independent Director
Robert T. Parry, age 69, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since March 2005.
Dr. Parry served as president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco for over 18 years and retired from that position in June 2004. He was a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, bringing his District's perspective to monetary policy discussions. He first joined the Federal Reserve System (Fed) at the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. as a research economist. He left the Fed to join Security Pacific National Bank, and moved up the ranks to executive vice president and chief economist of Security Pacific Corporation. Dr. Parry held that position until he accepted his post at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in February, 1986.
Throughout his career, Dr. Parry has served in a variety of leadership roles in community and professional organizations, including the Bay Area Council, Bay Area Economic Forum, San Francisco Bay Area Council Boy Scouts of America, United Way of the Bay Area, National Association for Business Economics and Pacific Rim Bankers Program. He is also a director of PACCAR Inc. and the National Bureau of Economic Research.
A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he received a B.A. degree from Gettysburg College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and holds honorary doctorates from Gettysburg College and Southern Utah University.
Jock Patton, Independent Director
Jock Patton, 62, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since March 2007. He is also a director of JDA Software Group, Inc. He was chairman and director of Swift Transportation Co., Inc. until May 2007 when the company was sold.
From 2004 through June 2007, he was the independent chairman of ING Funds Unified Board of Trustees. In 2003, Institutional Investor News named Mr. Patton "Small Board Trustee of the Year." He served as Chief Executive Officer of Rainbow Multimedia Group from 1999 to 2001. From 1992 to 1997 he was President and co-owner of Stock-Val, Inc., an investment advisor and provider of securities analysis software to mutual funds, money managers and brokerage firms worldwide.
From 1972 to 1992, Mr. Patton practiced corporate and securities law. He received his A.B. from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.
Landon H. Rowland, Independent Director
Landon H. Rowland, 71, has been a director of Janus Capital Group Inc. (formerly Stilwell Financial) since January 1998 and served as Janus Capital Group's chairman of the board from August 1999 through 2003.
Mr. Rowland previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Stilwell Financial. He is a director of Kansas City Southern Industries (KCSI) and was chairman of the board of KCSI from May 1997 to December 2000. He was President of KCSI from July 1983 to July 2000 and Chief Executive Officer of KCSI from January 1987 to July 2000.
Steven L. Scheid, Chairman
Steve Scheid, 55, is chairman of Janus Capital Group Inc., a position he has held since January of 2004. From April 2004 until January 2006, Mr. Scheid was Chief Executive Officer of Janus Capital Group. He has been a director of Janus Capital Group since December 2002.
Prior to Janus, he was vice chairman of The Charles Schwab Corporation and President of the Schwab Retail Group from 2000 to 2002. He also served as the firm's Chief Financial Officer from 1996 through 1999 and was the Chief Executive Officer of Charles Schwab Investment Management from 1998 to 2000.
From 2001 to 2002, Mr. Scheid served as the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco's representative on the Federal Advisory Council in Washington, D.C., which advises the Federal Reserve System on economic, banking and regulatory issues. He is a graduate of Michigan State University.
Glenn Schafer, Independent Director
Glenn S. Schafer, 58, has been a director of Janus Capital Group since December 2007.
Mr. Schafer is a former vice chairman of Pacific Life Insurance Company. During his 19-year career at Pacific Life, Mr. Schafer served as Chief Financial Officer and later as President. Prior to his years at Pacific Life, he was Chief Financial Officer of E.F. Hutton Life Insurance Company and Alexander Hamilton Life Insurance Company.
He is a member of the board of directors of Beckman Coulter, Skilled Healthcare Group, Inc., and the Michigan State University Foundation. He also serves on the advisory board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Orange County, California.
A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Schafer earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Michigan State University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Detroit.
Robert Skidelsky, Independent Director
Lord Robert Skidelsky, 69, has been a director of Janus Capital Group (formerly Stilwell Financial) since January 2001. He has been the chairman of The Social Market Foundation, London, England, since 1992. He has also served as chair of Political Economy at Warwick University, Coventry, England, since 1990.
Lord Skidelsky was named to the United Kingdom Parliament's House of Lords in 1991, and from 1998 to 1999 served as Principal Opposition Spokesman on Treasury Affairs, House of Lords. He is a fellow of the British Academy and an honorary fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, England.
