Interim Chief Executive Officer and Director Janus Capital Group
Tim Armour, 60, is interim chief executive officer ("CEO") of Janus Capital Group and also serves as a member of the Janus Capital Group Board. Mr. Armour was appointed interim CEO in July 2009, and has been a director since March 2008.
After 10 years with Morningstar, Inc., Mr. Armour retired as Morningstar's managing director in 2008. He was managing director of Morningstar from 2000 to 2008, president from 1999 to 2000, and chief operating officer from 1998 to 1999.
From 1992 to 1998, he served as president of Stein Roe & Farnham's mutual fund division. Prior to that, he was senior vice president and director of marketing in Citibank's retail bank division. Mr. Armour began his career in 1975 with General Foods Corporation, where he spent 12 years in product management and planning.
In his role as interim CEO at Janus, Mr. Armour partners with the executive leadership team to deliver against the firm's strategic priorities and has overall responsibility for day-to-day management of the firm.
Mr. Armour earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Gettysburg College, then served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. After completing his tour of duty, he earned his M.B.A. from Columbia University.
Robin C. Beery
Executive Vice President and Head of Intermediary Distribution, Global Marketing and Product
Robin Beery is Executive Vice President, Head of Intermediary Distribution, Global Marketing and Product and is a member of Janus' Executive Committee. Ms. Beery also serves as President of the Funds acting as the business liaison between Janus and the fund trustees, and is a member of the board of directors of INTECH and Perkins Investment Management LLC. Ms. Beery joined Janus in August 1994 and has held a variety of leadership positions within the marketing and distribution organizations, including overseeing the firm's retail business and firm-wide marketing and product areas. Ms. Beery currently oversees Janus' intermediary distribution business, which includes relationships and products sold through financial advisors, financial intermediaries, insurance companies and retirement platforms, along with the global marketing and product innovation efforts for all distribution channels. Prior to joining Janus, Ms. Beery worked in the distribution organizations at Chicago-based Kemper Financial and American Century in Kansas City. Ms. Beery received her bachelor of arts degree in personnel administration from the University of Kansas and has 19 years of financial industry experience.
Dan P. Charles
Executive Vice President and Head of Institutional and International
Dan Charles is Executive Vice President, Head of Institutional and International and is a member of Janus' Executive Committee. Mr. Charles oversees Janus' global institutional business including sales, client service and consultant relations. Mr. Charles joined Janus in August 2005 as Executive Director, Corporates, Foundations and Endowments. Prior to joining Janus, he served as national head of sales for Bank of America Institutional Investment Solutions serving the retirement and nonprofit marketplaces. Prior to that he spent 13 years with ING and Aetna Financial Services overseeing their sales and client service operations in San Francisco, Chicago and New York. Mr. Charles earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Rockhurst University and serves on the Board of Directors of Our Little Haven, a nonprofit organization serving abused children. Mr. Charles has 21 years of financial industry experience.
Jonathan D. Coleman, CFA
Co-Chief Investment Officer of Janus Capital Management and Portfolio Manager
Jonathan Coleman is Co-Chief Investment Officer, a role he has held since January 2006. He is also a member of Janus' Executive Committee. As Co-Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Coleman is responsible for Janus' investment process across the firm's equity, fixed-income and money market teams. The Director of Research, Director of Trading & Risk Management and Senior Vice President of Client Portfolio Management also report to the Co-Chief Investment Officers. Mr. Coleman also serves as Portfolio Manager and Executive Vice President of Janus' Large Cap Growth products. In July 1994, Mr. Coleman joined Janus as a research analyst focusing on the transportation, healthcare and financial services industries. From 1997 through 2000, he was Co-Portfolio Manager of Janus Venture Fund (closed to new investors). From 2000 through 2002, Mr. Coleman served as an analyst on Janus Fund and all related portfolios. From 2002 through 2007, Mr. Coleman served as Portfolio Manager of Janus' Mid Cap Growth products. Prior to joining Janus he was a Fulbright Fellow in Costa Rica, researching economic integration in Central America. Mr. Coleman was Phi Beta Kappa at Williams College, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in political economy and Spanish. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 14 years of professional investment experience.
Gregory A. Frost
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Greg Frost is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and a member of Janus' Executive Committee. Mr. Frost oversees the firm's Finance, Corporate Accounting, Tax, Information Technology and Corporate Services departments. Mr. Frost joined Janus in 1997 as Assistant Treasurer. In 2002, he became Vice President and Controller and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2005. In that role, he was responsible for the firm's Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting functions and assisted in the corporate planning process. Prior to joining Janus, Mr. Frost was employed by Price Waterhouse LLP, where he worked in the audit department serving a variety of industries. Mr. Frost earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado is a Certified Public Accountant. He has 11 years of financial industry experience.
James P. Goff, CFA
Director of Research
Jim Goff is Director of Research and a member of Janus' Executive Committee. As Director of Research, his responsibilities include strengthening the research culture by expanding stock coverage, generating new stock ideas, and analyst mentoring and development. Mr. Goff also leads the team of analysts that manage the firm's suite of research products. Previously, Mr. Goff was Portfolio Manager and Executive Vice President of Janus' Mid Cap Growth products, including Janus Enterprise Fund, separate accounts, sub-advised funds and the institutional commingled fund in the Mid Cap Growth discipline. Mr. Goff has also served as co-manager of Janus Venture Fund (closed to new investors). Prior to joining Janus in 1988, he was an associate analyst at Fred Alger Management. Mr. Goff graduated magna cum laude from Yale University, earning a bachelor's degree in economics with distinction. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and has 20 years of professional investment experience.
Kelley A. Howes
Executive Vice President , General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer
Kelley Howes is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer of Janus Capital Group Inc. and is a member of Janus' Executive Committee. Ms. Howes oversees Legal, Corporate Risk Management, Global Operations, Fund Services, Investment Accounting, Financial Reporting and Tax, and the Office of the Fund's Treasurer. Prior to being named General Counsel of the firm, she served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Janus Capital Management LLC, a subsidiary of Janus Capital Group. Ms. Howes previously held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Janus Funds. She is on the board of directors of ICI Mutual Insurance Company and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Governors of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation. Prior to joining Janus in September 1994, Ms. Howes was Assistant Vice President and Counsel with the Investor Services Group of The Boston Company Advisors, Inc., in Boston. She received her bachelor of arts degree in government from St. Lawrence University and her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University School of Law. She has 19 years of financial industry experience.
David Kowalski
Senior Vice President & Chief Compliance Officer
David Kowalski is Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. He is responsible for compliance on behalf of the Janus organization which includes U.S., international and subsidiary compliance and reports on compliance matters to the various corporate and fund Boards. Mr. Kowalski chairs the Internal Compliance Control Committee and serves on the Janus Ethics Committee. Mr. Kowalski joined Janus in April 2000 after serving in numerous positions including Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Van Kampen Funds, a subsidiary of Morgan Stanley. During his 15-year tenure at Van Kampen Funds, Mr. Kowalski also served as Director of Broker-Dealer Compliance as well as Director of Investment Adviser Compliance; he worked closely with Chief Compliance Officers at Morgan Stanley and Dean Witter. Prior to his tenure at Van Kampen Funds, Mr. Kowalski managed the Chicago Branch of Security Pacific National Bank's Clearing Division. Mr. Kowalski attended the University of Illinois, Chicago from 1975-1979 and has 27 years of financial industry experience.
Gibson Smith
Co-Chief Investment Officer of Janus Capital Management and Portfolio Manager
Gibson Smith is Co-Chief Investment Officer, a position he has held since January 2006. He is also a member of Janus' Executive Committee. As Co-Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Smith is responsible for Janus' investment process across the firm's equity, fixed-income and money market teams. The Director of Research, Director of Trading & Risk Management and Senior Vice President of Client Portfolio Management also report to the Co-Chief Investment Officers. Mr. Smith also serves as Executive Vice President and Co-Portfolio Manager of the High Yield discipline and the Balanced and Flexible Bond disciplines. He joined Janus in January 2001 as a fixed income analyst. Prior to that, Mr. Smith was Vice President in the fixed-income division at Morgan Stanley. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Colorado and has 17 years of professional investment experience.
